Celtics’ Robert Williams heads to locker room after Game 3 injury scare

Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams put his body on the line late in the fourth quarter Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers but paid for it as he suffered an apparent forearm injury and ultimately went back to the locker room. But, thankfully, he’s just fine and was deemed available to return, via Chris Forsberg.

“Robert Williams III has a right forearm contusion and is AVAILABLE to return.”

This is exactly why Celtics fans love Williams, though. Because he is a grinder who is always willing to hustle, even if it means diving out of play for the rock. The center dealt with injury problems for most of the season, suiting up just 35 times, including 20 starts. Williams has mostly been coming off the bench with Al Horford typically starting at the five.

Williams played just 16 minutes in Game 3, registering four points and five rebounds. The Celtics cruised to a huge win in the process, beating Philly by a score of 114-102.

The 25-year-old is averaging 22.3 minutes per night in these playoffs and although he’s putting up only 7.4 points per contest, Williams is grabbing 7.5 boards. That’s very important for Boston’s frontcourt.

A bruised forearm shouldn’t hamper him too much moving forward. Celtics fans will just be happy he’s not actually seriously hurt because that would be a brutal blow for the rotation. The C’s now shift their focus to Game 4 on Sunday at Wells Fargo Center, with the chance to go up 3-1 and potentially close out the series at home next Tuesday at the TD Garden.
